Design: Almost completely encased in shiny black plastic, the Panasonic VIERA X1 TC-L26X1 is quite compact with rounded edges. While the LCD does have built-in speakers, these are relatively invisible from the front. Controls are placed on either side of the frame. Overall, this LCD TV has an understated feel and style to it.

Specifications: The Panasonic VIERA X1 TC-L26X1 comes with an external iPod dock that charges and plays the device when it is plugged in. The LCD TV offers the ability to control the iPod direct from the LCD TV's remote control. With a 26-inch screen the LCD TV can play movies at 720p in resolution. Connection-wise the LCD TV offers three HDMI inputs (two on the back and one on the side). Other connections include an analog PC input, a single component-video input, an AV input with composite video and an RF input for cable or antenna. An optical digital audio output is also available to pass audio from the iPod to the home audio system. There is also another AV input with composite and S-Video on the side.

Features & Performance: The Panasonic VIERA X1 TC-L26X1 comes with the basic contrast and four global picture modes with a custom mode as well. The LCD TV offers an A.I. picture function that dynamically adjusts the back-light according to program content. Other functions include four ratio options with high-def sources and standard-def sources and a Zoom mode that allows adjustment of horizontal size and vertical position.

While the Panasonic VIERA X1 TC-L26X1 works with an iPhone, iPod Touch, iPod Nano 3G and an iPod Nano 4G the built-in TV speakers are not as good as expected but this isn't an issue if you've already hooked up an external audio system. Video quality remains the same as that on the iPod itself. Overall, the Panasonic VIERA X1 TC-L26X1 is an interesting add-on to your home theater system, especially if you've been looking for an LCD HDTV that can play well with your beloved iPod device of choice.

The Panasonic 1080p plasma series is one of the most popular lines of plasma TVs on the market today. They come with increased contrast ratios for deep blacks and appealing shadow detail. In addition these Panasonic 1080p plasma models offer a smooth picture and vivid colors that will appeal to movie lovers, sports fans and HDTV viewers alike.

If you are in the market for a new plasma then you have probably looked at several models and may very well be confused by all of the different makes and models. I will try to break down the basic differences between models in the Panasonic 1080p plasma Viera series.

Lets take a look at the model numbers. A typical Panasonic Viera plasma model is TH-xxPZ80U. There are several things to look at in order to understand the model number.

1. TH-xxPZ80U - The xx will represent the size of the TV (for example 50PZ80U will be a 50" model). Sizes range from as small as 42 inches and go up to 65 inches in the top of the line model.

2. TH-xxPZ80U - The PZ indicates that this is a 1080p model. Panasonic does also offer a 720p model, but that would be indicated by a PX.

3. TH-xxPZ80U - This is where it starts to get even a bit more confusing. These indicate the individual attributes and feature sets of each model with a good 80U, better 85U, even better 800U, and best (at least until they come up with an even better model) 850U.

So lets dig in a little deeper and check out the attributes and features of the different models.

80U - This is the base model. Of course these will be the least expensive of the models and include all the basics that give the Panasonic 1080p plasma TVs such a great reputation. They come with a 20,000:1 contrast ratio, 2 speakers and 3 HDMI inputs.

85U - The next step up in the model lines adds additional contrast ratio taking it up to 30,000:1 and add an input for PC connection.

800U - The next step up makes several additions such as 24p support and an additional HDMI input as well as THX certification. Other considerations are the addition of 2 more speakers for a higher quality sound, although if you connect your TV through an audio video receiver then you more then likely will not even use your TVs speakers. The 800U models also come with a swivel base which may be beneficial to those who do not choose to wall mount their plasma.

850U - The 850U represents the top of the line model by adding additional shades of color gradation as well as pro setting menus and a studio reference mode.

Hopefully that gives a bit of clarity to the Panasonic 1080p plasma Viera series. There is sure to be a size and feature set that suits a wide range of budgets. So if you are looking at a new TV for the holiday season or for the digital changeover, a Panasonic plasma may be the right choice for you.

It seems that every month, there is a new digital camera on the market claiming to be the best digital camera. Much like cell phones, there seems to be a lot of features in today’s digital cameras. So how do you know which is the best and which one is suitable for you?

Here are some factors you might want to consider before buying that latest digital camera model.

1) Megapixels

One of the most important feature of any digital camera is the megapixel. Generally speaking, the higher the megapixel, the better digital images it can take. The resolution of your digital images is based on the pixels that make up the images. One megapixel is equivalent to 1 million pixels. Most digital cameras on the market have between 3 to 5 megapixel which is more than sufficient if you are printing it on A4 size paper.

If you are printing on banner or enlarging the digital image, then you may need a higher megapixel camera.

2) Zoom

Most digital cameras nowadays have both optical and digital zoom features. Most digital cameras have an optical zoom of between 3 to 10x. Be sure to select a higher optical zoom since it is better than digital zoom.

3) LCD Size

A larger LCD size helps you to review images taken without having to squint. It is also easier to take pictures if the LCD screen is larger. Most digital cameras have a LCD of 1.5 inch. I prefer LCD screen that is at least 2 inches.

4) Memory Card

Almost all digital cameras have the ability to hold a memory card. The difference is the type of memory card used and the storage capacity of the card. Sony cameras can only use the sony memory stick while others uses the CompactFlash or SD card format.

Regardless of which type of memory card you use, be sure to get a sufficient large storage memory card. Particularly if you have a high megapixel digital camera as it can take up quite a large storage size for a single digital image. My recommendation is to get a 512 MB to 1 GB size card. It should be enough to hold at least 500 images. Prices of memory cards are dropping like crazy so the cost is negligible.

The Canon EOS 7D is a very handy item to have with you when you are on vacation. This brand new DSLR is very versatile and is packed with excellent features that make it a travel camera that is hard to top. Your pictures will be the envy of your family and friends.

The best way to get excellent pictures is to have a great travel camera that is easy to use, but one that also has good functionality. When you are on the go, you need to know that you can snap pictures at a moment's notice with a reliable piece of equipment. This baby smokes at 8 frames per second of continuous shooting so that you don't have to miss any photo opportunity, and you can capture multiple shots of moving objects or people. For example, while watching "The Running of the Bulls", you will have enough detailed photos of bulls tossing those silly runners high into the air so you can find one with just the right surprised expression on the unfortunate victims face (just kidding).

The Canon EOS 7D provides high quality resolution digital pictures with its 18 megapixel image sensor. This means that you will be able to enlarge your photographs into a large canvas portrait or poster with no problems. You can also quickly check the photo that you have taken with the oversized 3.0 inch LCD screen. Being able to clearly see what you have captured can make a world of difference.

An added bonus is the 1080p HD video recording option. Unique travel moments can happen that are better captured through video. Having a multi-functional photographic unit makes your holiday experience easier and more fun. It reduces your stress and allows you to spend more time focusing on other activities.

The exterior buttons and dials help you save time on picking your favorite options. On the body of the device are commonly used buttons that reduce your search time because you don't have to sift through a complicated on-screen menu. With the click of a button or the twist of a dial, you can have the setting that you need in place.

Vacations are the perfect time to take memorable pictures that will last a lifetime. You will be able to proudly display them on your computer, your walls or in photo books. The Canon EOS 7D can help you snap the best high quality pictures that will properly detail your travel experience.

Pocket camcorders like the Flip, the Kodak Zi8, and the Creative Labs Vado are at the forefront of a new video revolution. Why is this so?

Pocket camcorders that take HD video are in the $200 range, and dropping, lowering the entry costs of an exciting new hobby, and a new form of visual communication.

Because it fits in your pocket, you can take it with you anywhere. You can be ready to shoot at a moment's notice. It can lay on the baby's changing table (2nd shelf, to remain safely out of range of contamination) to catch a precious moment. You can pull over to the side of the road to catch a blue heron in its nest, and the slow flap of its wings as it departs for food for its chicks. You can be an amateur on-the-scene reporter of an event.

The list of possibilities is endless when you don't have to be prepared -- when you can power up and record in seconds, and when the skill required to shoot video is so low. What once was the province of techno-geeks is now in reach of every child and his grandmother. Flip HD camcorders plug directly into your computer, and with their FlipShare software make it incredibly easy to offload the video onto your computer, organize it, trim out the cruft, and make a movie, complete with titles and credits, in minutes.

Pocket camcorders enable daily, personal, visual communication. Sharing video has never been more convenient, taken less time, or required less of those with whom you want to share. Pocket camcorders typically have facilities for instantaneous upload to YouTube, to Facebook, or through an email.

If you like the idea of blogging (web logging), you might love the idea of vlogging (video logging) of the events and nuances of your daily life. It is now far easier to show a video to a few family members than to send them a card. Call it a virtual visit.

And it's all about to get better. Not only are prices going down, even as the video quality goes up, but "virtual telepresence" is on its way. You are going to be able to stream video directly from your computer to a set-top box that displays it on your TV, and to the TV's of others who have a similar box. You can have your own TV channel and give the "key" to your channel to your friends and family. Look for soon-to-be-released technology from Flip/Cisco.

It won't be long before your video channel can go live, from your camcorder to your channel. Rather than just video communication, you'll have video telepresence.

You aren't going to get this kind of quality with all of this convenience and capability from a cell phone any time soon. But, guess what? These gadgets have become small enough that I can carry my cell phone and my Flip in the same pocket!

So you've decided to purchase a digital camera. When you enter the mall, you are confused by the huge number of models and technical jargon. Well not to worry. This article is going to be your guide for selecting a suitable DSLR camera for you.

As a start, it is a good option to narrow down your approach by thinking about. First of all, emphasis should be on DSLR range and not the low-end point and shoot cameras. Then, consideration must be on other practical considerations like size, weight, weatherproof and shockproof body and specialist accessories. This is so because wildlife photographer's DSLR will be different from fashion photographers. Some of the key factors while choosing your DSLR, can be summed as follows:

Sensor size: In DSLR, megapixels rule and most entry level cameras have more than 18 megapixels. There are three types into which they can be classified. First is, the Full-Frame sensor represents the high-end and professional realm. These have the biggest and brightest viewfinders and no crop factor is further a delight. The second one is APS-C and is the standard format in most cameras. They offer low crop factor and special lenses are needed for better wide-angle results. But these are less expensive and readily available. Lastly, Four-thirds are small size sensors which offer compact bodies. But they produce grainier photos in low-light conditions.

Speed: Most of the entry level DSLR cameras offer a continuous shooting rate of around 2 to 3 frames per second. However, if money is no concern you can get cameras with up to 5 or even 10 frames per second.

Image stabilization systems: During photography, there is always an angle for human error. When clicking, camera might shake, which produces blurred images. Image stabilization is achieved by two methods. An optical image stabilization moves the lens independent of the camera and sensor IS moves the sensor. All DSLR's offer good image stability program bundled into the camera.

Optical zooms: Don't be fooled by large digital zoom like 100x. Check for good optical zoom as only it offers real-time magnification of pictures without blurring them. A good DSLR will have more than 8x optical zoom, which can further be increased by additional lenses.

LCD screens: LCD screens have evolved immensely and large crisp displays are now common. Some of the models offer very high resolution LCD screens of 2.5 to 3 inch size on the back providing excellent picture preview. However, it does contribute to price increase.

Accessories: Check out which brands offer what accessories. Common accessories include camera base, spare batteries, memory cards, tripods, and lenses. Compare them and try to negotiate the price.
These should serve as golden rules for prospective digital camera buyers. Finally, enter the shop with your gut feeling or intuition and only buy when you are certain about your choice.

Now a days camcorders are in great demands in the market. There are Analogue Camcorders and digital camcorders both available in the market.Digital camcorder offers picture quality and sound better than the analogue one but they are more prone to crashes. Today most of goes with digital because with digital you can connect to computers, editing, recording and even you can share it with your friends through internet.

Cheaper or costly camcorder which one to buy totally depends on a persons personal choice. If you want for you family cheaper would be a better option. But well if you want a night mode option, higher zooming, firewire then might the cost increase.

The digital camcorder is de facto a combination of video camera and video recorder. It was the analogue version that hit the markets in the early stages. But the analogue models were not equipped for editing and uploading to the computer. They were only able to record on video tapes. The modern digital versions are innovative and they come in different formats like DVD, hard drive, flash drive, Mini DV and High definition. They record on optical disks, hard disk drive and flash memory. The device has become very popular in the present scenario mainly because of the convenience and compactness they have.

The consumers have to consider certain factors while choosing a digital camcorder. The most remarkable aspect of this device is that it can offer high quality images and sound reproduction. For this purpose it is necessary to have image stabilization. Generally there are two types of stabilization available in the modern camcorders. The first type is optical stabilization by which the lens manipulates images in tune with the movements of the camera. In the second type namely electronic stabilization, images are captured in Charge Couple device and will be interpreted by internal circuits.

An important feature in the camcorder is the optical zoom. A digital camcorder should have a minimum optical zoom of 10 x. At times higher optical zoom will be counterproductive and will affect the video quality adversely. There is another important factor to be considered by the shoppers. It is the screen size. LCD screen displays images which are to be transferred to the video disks. The photographer should obtain clear view of the objects on the screen, and it is therefore necessary to have a screen adequately large for the purpose. Equally important is the microphone in the digital camcorder in order to obtain clear sound recordings. External microphones are also available which can be plugged into the camcorder for quality performance. The shoppers can insist on features like auto focus, auto exposure and capability to shoot still images. Infra red enabled night mode will make videography easier in dark or dim light ambience. Lens quality and zoom range are other important factors in choosing the digital camcorder.

Shoppers should avail all necessary information about camcorders from relevant websites or catalogues. It is a very expensive product and for some consumers it will be 'once in a lifetime' deal. Of course there are enthusiasts and professional photographers who acquire latest models periodically. They also upgrade their existing camcorders whenever innovative features are introduced by the manufacturers. Samsung, Canon, Sony, JVC Everio and Panasonic are market leaders in the field. They are introducing new models with innovative features periodically to cater the needs of the demanding consumers. Sony Handy cam and Canon ZR950 are two to point out in this context. With latest technology support these digital camcorders in the contemporary markets offer good image stabilization and simultaneous photo recording features. Panasonic PV-G S85 with its powerful 32 x optical zoom offer superb recording.

Internet is a good source to gather information about the latest introductions as mentioned earlier. Remember that technology is in a fast forward mode and newer products are being introduced frequently. Camcorders are portable devices for electronically recording video and audio through an in- built recorder unit. They differ from the previous units in which the recording and audio devices were separate. Today, a camcorder is a combination of video camera and a video recorder.

Previously, companies such as Sony, JVC and Kodak, etc. used analog video tapes. Since 1990 the digital tape came into use and three years hence, the storage tapes were being replaced by optical disks, hard disk drives and solid state memory. Camcorders, which do not use magnetic tapes, are called `tape-less` while those using two different media, like HDD and Memory card, are called `Hybrid Camcorders`.

Technological advancement has miniaturized the large cameras on specially mounted trolleys to portable video cameras and recorders for broadcasting images. This transition started in 1982 when JVC and Sony released the first professional camcorders. The Betacam, designed by Sony, slowly gained popularity and became the standard device for both news gathering and video editing. This was followed by Betamax in 1983 - the first consumer camcorder. At this stage, they were bulky and generally rested on the user`s shoulder during recording. Even today most camcorders are designed for right-hand users with very few possessing ambidextrous ergonomics.

Both JVC and Sony started improving the quality of camcorders which led to the development of digital devices in 1990. These had cassettes even smaller than the 8mm media allowing further reduction of size of tape transport assembly. The digital variety further improved the audio and video quality over the best analog camcorders. With the advent of digital models, the market has grown substantially being facilitated further by its price and size reduction. Today a device fits in the palm and is sold at a retail price of less than $150.

Camcorders comprise of three basic components : lens, imager and recorder. The lens solely focuses and gathers light on the imager. The imager is the eye of the camcorder which converts captured images into electrical video signals. The recorder encodes the video signals into storable form. The lens offers professional control of all major optical functions such as aperture, shutter speed and focus, etc. The recorder function is responsible for writing the video signal onto a recording medium (magnetic video tape).

Camcorders are normally classified by their storage device. The highest quality digital format such as Betacam and Mini DV, etc., suffer from little generation loss during recording, dubbing and editing. In analog recordings, noise and bandwidth issues relating to cables, amplifiers and mixers are a problem while in digital connections such problems are minimized.

However archival problems continue to affect both analog and the digital varieties. They are both prone to tape format deterioration over time. This is more acute in the digital recordings where large data base is permanently erased owing to deterioration and restoration is very expensive. One of the advantages in analog devices is that the recording may be usable even after the media, in which the data is stored, suffers deterioration.

Consumer camcorders emphasize the basic qualities such as easy usage, price and portability rather than technical performances. Such units offer a wide range of I/O operation but lack various menu settings, video exposures, gain controls and sound level management. For beginners, basic recording and playback facilities are emphasized. Today a personal computer, with a modest configuration, can perform digital video editing with software available in the market.

Camcorders have a plethora of usage in electronic media ranging from electronic news organizations to TV / current affair production. They are invaluable for initial video footage in locations away from the distribution infrastructure. Events which have scheduled set timings, such as official press conferences, use camcorders extensively. They are also used for covering personal events such as weddings, birthdays and other special family gatherings.

Even in the political arena, camcorder is used to film events which have a bearing on the subject. Protesters from various fields, such as animal rights, tax, anti-globalization, war and police, use camcorders to record and film such events which have wide social and historical ramifications. Even some judicial decisions are based on video footages exposed by such devices. They are also used in low budget films, ad shoots, tv shows and for academic film making, etc.

The history of Kodak all started when in the 1870s, 24-year old George Eastman was planning a vacation from his job in Rochester, New York as a bank clerk. A co-worker suggested that he make photos of his vacation and he found out that to do some photography, one has to carry a bulky load of camera, wet-plate developing chemicals, and other stuff.

It was only after three years that he developed a dry glass plate to his satisfaction. He got a U.S. patent for several contraptions he developed and started manufacturing these in 1880. A year later, joined by a businessman, he went full time with the photography business and left his job at the bank.

Here are the Important Developments in the History of Photography and the Evolution of the Modern Camera

1880 - George Eastman, founder of Kodak sold dry plates

1884 - Eastman Dry Plate and Film company was formed. Henry A. Strong, a businessman who joined Eastman two years earlier was President and Eastman as General Manager and Treasurer.
1888 - "Kodak" was born as a trademark. The first portable camera was introduced, and signaled the birth of snapshot photography. Kodak then was known with its highly advertised slogan, "You push the button, we do the rest."

1892 - The company name was changed to Eastman Kodak Company of New York. By this time, Kodak products have reached distribution outside United States, particularly in France, Germany, and Italy with its headquarters in London and a manufacturing plant outside London.
1898 - With its vision of bringing photography to more people at the lowest possible price, Kodak developed the Folding Pocket Kodak Camera. This is the father of modern roll-film cameras. The Brownie camera was introduced at $1 each and films at 15 cents per roll.

1923 - Kodak introduced Kodacolor motion picture films, cameras and projectors and sold them at affordable prices. The company provided the U.S. government with aerial cameras and trained U.S. Signal Corps cameramen during World War 1.

1963 - Kodak introduced the Instamatic camera. It revolutionized amateur photography and became such a big hit as these are affordable and easy to use.

1970s - Kodak was involved in several antitrust suits filed against the company by smaller photography companies. It also got into head-on collision with another company that manufactures and sells instant photography that develops pictures outside the camera in minutes-Polaroid. This long-drawn battle between two giants in the photography business finally ended with Kodak paying a settlement of $925 million to Polaroid.

Over the years, Eastman Kodak further contributed to the development of photography. It also branched out to other industries such as chemical manufacturing, supplying necessary supplies to the U.S. Defense hardware manufacturing requirements and in the field of medicine, Kodak printers and rel=nofollow [http://printerinkcartridges.printcountry.com/other-printer-brands-printer-ink-cartridges-articles/kodak-inkjet-printers-kodak-ink-cartridges-kodak-com-inkisit-com/kodak-easyshare-printers-cartridges/]Kodak ink cartridges

Up to this point in history where digital imaging systems dominate the world of photography, Kodak, remains a force and brand to reckon with.

George Eastman, founder of Kodak is world renowned today. Digital cameras or cinematography, Kodak has excelled in all fields. In this article, we will view the rich history of Kodak's rise.

It all started in the year 1879 for Kodak, when George Eastman obtained an American patent for his plate coating machine and started manufacturing dry plates. In 1888, Eastman introduced the concept of manufacturing films in rolls and thus made it possible for all to possess a camera. This Kodak camera came with film for 100 exposures at just $25. After the pictures had been clicked, the camera could be returned and the film would be developed and replaced just for $10.

This level of innovation started a period of no-return for Kodak. Eastman's aim was that "you press the button, we do the rest". He has achieved this through constant innovation by making the camera simpler to use and making photography an enjoyable experience today.

In movie making technology, since the Academy Awards have started, all Oscar "Best Movies' have been shot on Kodak film. In fact, Kodak itself has won eight Academy Awards for scientific and technical excellence in cinema. Kodak has also introduced the concept of 'infoimaging'. As the name suggests, it means communicating through pictures.

In the late 80's, Kodak started to make great advancements in digital technology. It developed the concept of Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) displays which depicts information with the use of self-illuminated pixels and does not require any back lights for support. The OLED also provides clearer images, sharper contrasts, and lower energy consumptions as compared to LCD display units. In fact, it is Kodak who is considered to be the inventor of the basic technology utilized in a digital camera i.e. the pixel technology.

In the year 1990, Kodak introduced the Photo CD. This CD enabled people to store photographic images onto a CD and then view them on a computer. As a result, it became more practical for people to use a digital camera. Then, in the late 90s, several companies including Kodak launched digital cameras which could be used at home.

Kodak also tied up with Microsoft in the year 2001 so that digital camera manufacturers could use the Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP) through Windows. This would enable people to easily view and share their pictures through the Internet under an Windows operating system.

Today, as technology advances, Kodak has introduced several hi-tech digital cameras such as the Kodak Professional DCS Pro SLR/c. These cameras are capable of storing 13.89 million pixels, which makes them the digital camera with the highest resolution available in the market today.

The latest digital cameras by Kodak today are as follows:

Easyshare Point-and-Shoot Series: The C and CX series are simple and low cost cameras.

Easyshare High Zoom Series: The Z and DX series have extensive zoom and provide control to the photographer.

Easyshare Pocket Series: Small, compact cameras for travelers.

One time use Digital Cameras: Single use digital cameras.

Along with other digital cameras in this series the Nikon Coolpix L20 is the most straightforward digital cameras I can recall testing. Sure a large part of this is down to its minimal set of features, but if you are looking for complete simplicity the Coolpix L20 is very hard to beat.

Key features include 10 megapixels and a 3.6x optical zoom lens. This gives you enough power for larger prints and although the amount of zoom available is near to the minimum expected it is still enough for a host of standard, social shots. Nikon has also included a large size LCD screen. It is 3 inches in size.

As you would expect for this type of camera the price has been kept relatively low. The body is made out of plastic and although too large for most pockets it is still a compact model. There is a raised, grip area on the front. This can help you to hold the camera steady when taking a shot.

The Coolpix L20 is one of a decreasing number of digital cameras to be powered by AA batteries. Cameras at this end of the market still tend to be battery hungry despite advances in technology so you will save yourself money in the longer term if you also invest in some good quality, rechargeable batteries.

Looking at the features that are available you get a standard movie mode and a selection of predefined scene modes. The movies produced should be of sufficient quality to playback on a TV screen, although it is worth stating that there is no widescreen TV mode and no High Definition settings. I use the landscape scene mode for any scenic shot I take with most Nikon digital cameras. I find this helps to stop sharpness falling away as you move out towards the edges of a photo.

You can focus from 5cm away from a subject in macro mode. I found my close up shots to be of good quality. When shooting bright shiny objects using macro mode you may have to look out for purple fringing showing up where your light source catches the subject. That problem aside you will have to pay considerably more to notice a significant difference in the quality of your close up shots.

A smile shutter mode has been incorporated for if you like the idea of firing off a shot automatically when the camera detects someone is smiling. I think this is a bit of a gimmick, but you might find it comes in handy now and again.

Shutter lag times for a single shot were in line with other similarly priced digital cameras, but I did detect the camera slowing considerably when reeling off more than one shot at a time. The camera is also a little slow to turn on and take the first shot.

There has been a glut of this type of camera introduced during the spring of 2009. Nikon themselves has introduced two new cameras with Canon, Olympus, Fuji, Panasonic, Pentax and Sony also pitching in with new offerings. Out of the cameras I have tested so far the Coolpix L20 along with the Coolpix L19 is the easiest to use and is just a shade behind the Canon Powershot A480 when it comes to picture quality. I especially like the amount of brightness Nikon manage to bring out in pictures even with cheaper cameras like this one. One downside when it comes to picture quality is that the corners of photos can be noticeably darker when the lens is not zoomed in at all. This is down to an imperfection in the lens and is difficult to overcome.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC FS7 is a mid priced, pocket sized digital camera. In terms of main features it has 10 megapixels and a 4x optical zoom lens. As with other Panasonic cameras in this series you can trade off some of the megapixels and increase the amount of zoom. For example when shooting at below 3 megapixels the maximum zoom available is 7.1x magnification or at 5 megapixels you can increase the zoom to 5.7x magnification. This makes the Lumix DMC FS7 quite a flexible camera. Shooting at 5 megapixels still gives you scope to produce prints of around 8 x 11 inches in size. Most people find this plenty for holiday snapshots etc.

It is this type of feature that gives the Lumix DMC FS7 a small edge over other similarly priced digital cameras. Other little extras include a LCD screen with a special setting that makes the screen a lot easier to see if you need to hold the camera above your head to take a photo. This may come in useful if you are in a crowd and would like to take a shot of events unfolding in front of you. Likewise I think it is a good idea to give you an option to increase the size of the text used in the menu system. Most people would not want to use this feature, but for anyone whose eyesight is not what it was this can help to make the Lumix DMC FS7 that bit easier to use. The LCD screen is a good size at 2.7 inches. This is now becoming the standard screen size.

Other features worth a mention include a starry sky mode. This mode allows you much greater control over shutter speeds and can help you to take much better photos. If you are going to use slower shutter speeds then the fact the camera has image stabilisation built in will also be of interest. This feature is not a necessity on cameras with fairly short zoom lenses, but every little helps when it comes to taking sharp photos.

You may also notice the camera has an Intelligent Auto setting. This is said to help the camera recognise certain scenes and to detect when a subject is moving or the camera is not completely still. Again I would not say any of this is a necessity, but it may help improve your photos a notch or two.

We have now reached the stage in the evolution of digital cameras where the majority are able to take a decent snapshot. This is especially true if you are not looking to enlarge picture size outrageously. Even so I felt the Lumix DMC FS7 had a slight edge over a number of similarly priced cameras I have tested recently. A lot of this is down to the sharpness of the photos and also the level of detail the camera is able to bring out in light shade. In some of my tests the level of contrast in the shot is high and I felt the camera handled these tricky scenes better than most cameras do.

In terms of looks and design there is not a great deal to report. The camera has a simple design and to be honest it looks roughly similar to so many other digital cameras. That is not to say the camera is unattractive. You also have a selection of colours available. Panasonic state the Lumix DMC FS7 is available in silver, pink and black, but I have also seen pictures of the camera in green and blue, so these colours must be available somewhere.

If you are looking for this type of camera then you are spoilt for choice. There are even four similar models, including the Lumix DMC FS7 that Panasonic alone has introduced in the spring of 2009. This camera offers good vale for money and stands up well against other models.

1. Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 (12 MP): The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 is by far the best waterproof compact digital camera in the market. One of its biggest selling factors is its design. It looks very much like a regular compact camera, with a brushed metal surface and slim profile. It is shockproof and can be used at depths of up to 10 feet. It also has a wide-angle lens and HD video recording capabilities. The quality of the photos and video is also very good. The combination of good design, excellent feature set and great image quality makes the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 the best waterproof compact camera in the market today.

2. Fujifilm FinePix Z33WP (10 MP): This model is waterproof up to 10ft, has a 10MP image sensor, a 3X optical zoom and a 2.7-inch LCD on the back. It is also quite compact, measuring at just 2.2 x 3 x 1.2 inches. The photo quality of the Fujifilm FinePix Z33WP may not be as good as the Panasonic model above, but is nevertheless quite sufficient. The biggest selling point of this model would have to be in its price. It currently cost about half the price of other waterproof digital cameras.

3. Pentax Optio W60 (10 MP): The Pentax Optio W60 is another great waterproof model. It has a 5x optical zoom and can withstand pressures at up to 13 feet underwater. It also records HD videos as 720p. It has a very reasonable price tag and works really well underwater. The only downside is its poor battery life.

4. Canon PowerShot D10 (12.1 MP): Many experts have mixed feelings about the Canon PowerShot D10. Whereas it lacks in many ways, it has many features not found on any other waterproof compact models. For instance, it is waterproof to up to depths of 33 feet and freeze-proof to up to -10 degrees Celsius. The photo quality is also very impressive for a waterproof camera. On the flip side, this model has a really weird design. It looks like a toy. It also doesn't have a wide-angle lens.

Specifications: The Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP digital camera is a 12.1 mega pixel consumer camera with 3x optical zoom. The 2.5-inch LCD display is small but very viewable. It is lightweight and stunningly designed, making this digital camera one of the most sought after compact digital cameras on the market. As a bonus, the PowerShot's SD780IS has the ability to record videos in HD which also boosts its already impressive specifications.

Design: Its design is pretty different from regular PowerShot designs of the past because it is slimmer and comes in a new matte surface (for the black model) that is impervious to fingerprints. The camera is a mere 0.7-inches thick, and users will barely know the camera is in their pockets. Its slim design allows for greater portability, making it the ideal camera for enthusiastic amateur photographers.

Features & Performance: The 12.1 mega pixel-quality allows the Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP digital camera to produce outstanding images with good clarity and detail. The 2.5-inch LCD screen is on the smaller side but can nevertheless produce good color, clarity, brightness and sharpness. Its lightweight, slim design, ability to capture moving images, smart auto mode, face detection with the DIGIC IV processor and blink detection all make photo-taking a pleasure. Video recording is also superb as it can record in HD (1280 x 720 pixels).

Overall: Overall the Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP digital camera is a good camera for everyday use. With HDMI output, it allows for HD video playback straight to a HD television, although sound-wise quality is not as good. The picture quality, compact design and array of features included coupled with the affordable price make the Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP digital camera a perfect camera to buy for camera enthusiasts looking for a stylish yet competent compact digital camera.
